Manny Villar refuses to give political foes satisfaction over C-5 controversy

Senator Manny Villar refuses to face his Senate peers as it deliberates over possible censure arising from the C-5 ethics complaint.

Cornered on charges of ethical violations as well as allegations of political corruption, Senator Manny Villar refused to face his peers at the Senate as the august legislation body poised to censure him.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile insinuated that Villar’s refusal to face his peers at the senate was an indication of guilt.  But Villar’s allies repeated pointed out that any decision made by the Senate, with the May 2010 elections being so near, would be colored by the politics of the time.  A fair and impartial decision would not be possible, they said, as senators who were either running for President or Vice President would be voting along party lines and political interests — not in the interest of rendering justice.

In this official Press Statement, Manny Villar explains why he refuses to face his peers over the C-5 ethics complaint.

VILLAR SHUNS ONE-SIDED FLOOR DELIBERATIONS

The floor deliberations on the C-5 road extension project at the Senate will have to continue without him, Nacionalista Party (NP) standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar declared yesterday.

Villar said his Senate foes have tried hard but failed to drag him into the fray by recycling accusations that he benefited from the C-5 road extension project. He said his foes have become so desperate that they now resort to name-calling.

“I was called a coward and a copycat by some of my colleagues. But the truth is I have never evaded the issue. I have answered the issues they threw at me. I stood on the floor of the Senate two years ago to rebut their charges,” Villar said.

“I have always faced the music. But I did not dance to their music and never will. I addressed the Filipino people directly about the C-5 issue. I am available to media to answer questions. My opponents want to make me a whipping boy to boost their political plans. Why should I give them the satisfaction?” the NP presidential candidate added.

Villar said he would also stay away from a looming vote on the Senate floor on the motion by his foes to censure him in connection with the C-5 issue.

He reiterated that the charges against him are all politically motivated. He said it was no coincidence that the C-5 controversy was revived at a time when his ratings were closing in on that of his closest rival, Liberal Party standard bearer Sen. Benigno Aquino III.

“Look at the cast of characters on the other side, they are candidates for president or their respective allies,” he said.

Sen. Manuel Roxas III is Aquino’s running mate while another accuser, Sen. Ma. Ana Consuelo Madrigal, is also running for the presidency.

“The Liberal Party panicked when they saw the surveys. They were the ones who leaked the committee report. It’s obvious,” Villar disclosed.

Villar had slashed Aquino’s lead in the surveys by as much as 30 percentage points in less than three months. And in a one-on-one scenario, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) put Aquino’s lead over Villar by a slim eight points in a survey conducted in December last year.

Villar also defended the C-5 project. “I am happy with the C-5 road project because it is now being used by six million of our countrymen from Cavite, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Taguig, and Makati. I had wanted to ease the traffic in our area and I was able to do that. And for that I am proud,” he said.

This scandal should be a red flag for all voters. However, the scary part is that Villar is spending billions to keep this out of the picture as he continues his attempt to brainwash our masses that he is their saviour. He convinces the masses that he is one of them. A poor boy from the slums of Tondo. In actuality, he is more like the 5-6 and syndicates, slum dwellers themselves who make a profit out of their poor brethren. Villar’s ad agencies are doing an excellent job of maintaining this image as well as doing damage control. TV and radio continues to churn out Parokya Ni Edgaresque jingles that compete with “Nobody, Nobody.” Dolphy is Villar’s new spokesperson and Wowowee is one giant ad for him. In this process of brainwashing, the masses are not cognizant of how Villar conducts business as a politician. What they do not see is a man hell bent on turning our archipelago into his own personal piece of real estate.

why would he spend a commercial of buying a ticket for an OFW? Why not send ALL OFW’s back home and give us each a house not in camella but on his high end units? If he do this I will buy him the most expensive house here in HONGKONG!

HOW, REALLY, DID MANUEL BAMBA VILLAR JR. GET TO BE RICH? It bears to investigate and it can serve the Filipino nation well to know that Manny Villar may actually have broken through from Tondo-ragged accountant to billionaire-rich presidentiable by allowing himself to be used as a foreign investor’s dummy in the Philippine real estate business. You see, the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines is made exclusive by law to Filipino citizens, necessarily because its affairs involve sensitive issues affecting civil rights, territory, sovereignty, patrimony, and national security. Wasn’t that a debonair American who was smilingly visible every day at the offices of Crown Asia Inc. way back before the Villars became political aspirants? Unfortunately, sighting American presence at the Crown Asia Inc. organization deteriorates to zero visibility in hot election weather, especially nowadays! As Manny Villar embarked on a political career, it strategically became imperative to avoid flaks of damaging controversy about being financially beholden to foreign influence, especially from nationalist camps of the likes of then Senator Teofisto Guingona Jr. who was one among legislators instrumental in passing general law limiting real estate business in the Philippines to Filipinos only. In fact, it was from 1997 to 1999 that the bespectacled, middle-aged, happy American investor (silent? fronted? non-express? implied?) of Crown Asia Inc. was last regularly observed at the 18th Floor of Cityland Herrera Tower. Apart from being born with a silver spoon, most of us often have “humble”, sometimes “rotten”, beginnings; yet being transparent about such beginnings can do even more good than harm. The answer may go as far back as Villar’s auditing days at internationally-patronized Sycip Gorres Velayo (SGV) or, perhaps, good Senator Manuel Villar might want to comment on this?

Good to hear that he is happy about the C-5… easing the traffic? hmmmm… how about giving much thought sa ating mga kababayan na walang makain araw-araw… it would have been to his advantage sana kung ang mamamayan ang inuna sa lahat. what about the BOT plans? He could have supported this to materialize it in due time pero mas inuna pa nya ang sariling interest and proclaim the C5 accomplishment is for his countrymen… kung sa binisaya pa, “unsaon na lang!” well, its the saddest song i’ve ever heard…
