Kris Aquino VS. Willie Revillame as the best political endorser
Will Kris Aquino’s endorsement of her brother Noynoy win more votes than Willie Revillame’s endorsement of Manny Villar? Would average pedicab drivers follow Kris’ sing-song advice to vote for her brother or would they prefer to be goaded by Willie to vote for Villar?
Most political players in the Philippines still believe that an endorsement from the President, the Catholic Church, or a celebrity is a crucial factor to winning an election.
This probably is a left-over from the Filipino’s political evolution, like an appendix or tailbone that serves no purpose but can be life threatening if infected or a literal pain in the butt if injured.
In my favorite read, the Philippine Daily Inquirer, a survey by Pulse Asia says that:
According to the October 22-30 survey by Pulse Asia released Thursday, Aquino’s candidate for president would surely/probably get the support of 45 percent of Filipinos while Revillame’s candidate would surely/probably get the support of 37 percent of Filipinos.
But seemingly contradicting this is the answer of the respondents when asked if they would surely/probably/probably not/surely not vote for the presidential candidate endorsed by Aquino: 49 percent said they would surely/probably not vote for her candidate.
Of the negative impact of Revillame’s endorsement, 58 percent said they would surely/probably not vote for his candidate.
Then again, with Jamby Madrigal in the running, will Judy Ann Santos be pulled out to lend support to her campaign?
