Candidates for the 2010 Philippine elections

99 Presidents, 158 senators, 300 party-list groups file for candidacy

Yesterday was the last day for candidates in the 2010 elections to file their certificates of candidacy and as with the last day for anything, there was a mad rush of sorts to beat the deadline.

Senator Richard Gordon’s filing of his certificate of candidacy was something that was probably a bit unexpected but welcomed by certain sectors who had thought he had, once again, backed out of running.

The idea of him seeking the Presidency actually surfaced several times before, some say that the idea was raised some time before the 1998 elections and then again, just before the 2004 elections.  In a way, he was being compared to fellow Atenean and PLDT Big Boss Manny V. Pangilinan, who has been rumored at one time or another to be interested in running as President.

Anyway, as the supporters of Dick Gordon would probably say, “Kumasa na nga siya!” which is a play on the KAKASA KA BA slogan that his supporters tried to popularize before.

I am wondering how he will fare considering that he is one of 99 other candidates running for President in 2010.  Even granting that this number will still be pared down to about 10 or so, it still looks like a crowded race and so far, there seems to be barely anything to support the idea that a Gordon Presidency can emerge.

Except, may be, the idea that he has accomplished the impossible before. (I’ve heard that he can walk on water too!)

As for the others that also filed their COC yesterday, the Philippine Daily Inquirer writes thus:

Among those who filed the CoCs on Tuesday were Gilbert Teodoro and actor Edu Manzano who are running as president and vice president under the Lakas-Kampi-Christian Muslim Democrats party…  …Senator Maria Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal who is running an independent campaign for president, and former TV host Jay Sonza who filed his candidacy for vice president.

Among those who filed for candidacy as President, it was Senator Jamby Madrigal’s filing that seemed to trump everybody else’s candidacy.  She had gained prominence for her role in the Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili sex scandal hearings as well as the C-5 scandal hearings.  With a people clamoring for clean and honest government, Madrigal’s pitch (that of being an enemy of corruption) is something that seems quite in tune with the zeitgeist or political climate.

Some have derided Madrigal for a number of reasons and there is a fairly huge number of blogs that really spit venom at her, but perhaps, her candidacy has some merit.

Moving on, the race for a seat in the senate is just as crowded with 158 senatorial candidates vying for 12 seats, it looks like there will be more than 10 people fighting for each senate seat.

Danton Remoto, who failed to register Ang Ladlad as a Party List, may actually have a better chance of winning a seat in the Senate as the country’s first openly gay senator.

Of course, you know what they say about gay people.  It takes one to know one and if I had not read newspapers saying that Danton Remoto was gay, I wouldn’t know about it for sure.  I still have my doubts, but a large number of people swear that he is gay and so just to be polite, I’ll go along with it.

I just wonder how he will be addressed during Senate hearings or sessions.  More importantly, I’d like to see what he’ll wear on the first session day of the Senate — will he out do Senator Lito Lapid who came dressed in a batman-like get up?  Ang gara!

The race among Party-List representatives is also crowded as 300 party list groups try to get votes.

Anyway, we can expect that that with such a huge number of candidates running for national positions, the Comelec’s job is going to be a bit tougher — especially with an automated election system in place.

The ballot that will be used next year will be vastly different.  Instead of blank spaces, the ballots will contain the names of candidates and people will have to shade the circles beside the name of the candidate they intend to vote for.  What this means is that if a huge number of candidates pass muster and get listed, the ballot will be crammed with so many names and probably be quite long — perhaps over a foot long.

Oh well! Good luck to everyone!

2010 Political Game Play for the Year of the Split Tiger

Philippine elections are particularly interesting to observe compared to other countries’ elections because the five fundamental dynamic elements are usually present. For those familiar with Feng Shui and psychology, its game cards are easy to see:

    Element: WOOD or AIR
Mental Condition: “autistic” (See Note 1 at the end)
    Descriptive Class: Scholars
Descriptive Gender: “Male” (See Note 2)
    Characteristic “race”: Yellows
Need Hierarchy: Self-actualization or optimization of potential
    Nearest Presidential Candidate: Noynoy Aquino
Reasons: less-than-adequate social skills, alone at 50 years old, intelligent

    Element: WATER
    Mental condition: “schizophrenic”
    Descriptive Class: Shamans
    Descriptive Gender: “Female”
Characteristic “race”: Small Browns or Brown Female
Need Hierarchy: Superego or esteem needs
Nearest Presidential Candidate: Brother Eddie Villanueva
Reasons: Preacher, Founder of “Jesus is Lord” Movement

    Element: EARTH
    Mental condition: “Depressive”
Descriptive Class: Ubuntu Business or Social Class
    Descriptive Gender: “Lesbian”
    Characteristic “race”: Blacks
    Need Hierarchy: Belongingness needs
    Nearest Presidential Candidate: Jamby Madrigal
Reasons: Like the “Virgin” Mary, loves and protects nature

    Element: FIRE
    Mental condition: “Manic”
Descriptive Class: Military, Militant Business Class or “Militants”
    Descriptive Gender: “Gay”
    Characteristic “race”: Whites
Need Hierarchy: security or economic needs
Nearest Presidential Candidate: Gibo Teodoro, Jr. (& Dick Gordon)
    Reasons: Former Defense Secretary,
Likes to fly (a gay fantasy),
    Likes to cook European cuisine,
Loves the military like Alexander the Great Gay,
Plato’s Ideal Army, American “Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell” Troops,
Homosexual Hitler and his seductive Storm Troopers

    Element: SPACE ETHER OR METAL
    Mental condition: “bipolar”
    Descriptive Class: Working Class
    Descriptive Gender: “Bisexual”
Characteristic “race”: Big Browns or Brown Male
Need Hierarchy: Physiological or Basic Needs
Nearest Presidential Candidate: Manny Villar (& Erap Estrada)
    Reasons: From impoverished Tondo,
    Fights to Survive, Emotional,
    Close to Artists/Actors, Dishonest

Unlike the two-party American “gay” system, and the one-party Chinese “autistic” system, the multi-party Filipino “schizophrenic” system shows the full spectrum of the Five Elements (Wu Xing), like the female mind. The Philippines can be compared to a Black Widow spider or a Praying Mantis that bites off the head of its mate after sex and eats it to nourish her children. So the female often loves the bisexual because “he” is often willing to serve “his” head on a silver platter, like a suicide bomber, leading the family like the Headless Horseman. The true male considers it to be crazy, stays away and develops “autism.” Thus, the Philippines will often search for a “bisexual” leader, unlike Chinese President Hu Jintao who is an “autistic” engineer.

However, in this year’s election, the “bisexual” vote is split between Erap and Villar, which allows a male “autistic” candidate like Noynoy to increase his chances of winning. The inner male voice of the female also thinks about stability and trustworthiness, and unfortunately, the bisexual is often unreliable and dishonest because “his” head offering might be a magical box trick, mimicking the Wizard of Oz. So sometimes she picks the nerd over the romantic lover when she feels like going straight. But she can be split about the numerous inner voices that silently speak to her, so she may become indecisive, develop a “split mind” or become “schizophrenic.”

It is not only the female who has the five basic gender minds or voices within her conscience. All five genders have these five elements in their conscience or minds. And even all the “races” have the characteristics or traits of all five genders. In other words, there are five gender breeds (i.e. Yellows, Small Browns, Blacks, Whites and Big Browns) which correspond to the five genders. And within each “race,” there are five actual genders. Of course, within each gender, there are five gender minds. These all come in different degrees with an infinite number of combinations, which makes each individual unique yet similar using five-element organization.

In the end, people will decide on everything that they do based on their gender minds, gender and gender breed. They will think of the needs of the multiple genders within themselves and act on these needs. As Freud believes, everything is motivated by sex.

They will all desire and avoid relationships with each other, following the “harmony” and “conflict” lines or game “rules” of the five-pointed star or Pentacle of Kung-Fu Tzu (Confucius), which looks like a Filipino Christmas parol, originally patterned after Chinese or Japanese paper lanterns. Each gender sits on one of the tips of the star, and both the star and the circle around it show how the genders love, hate, help, poison and kill each other.

The game guidelines though are broad and dynamic, as harmony can produce conflict (or vice-versa), or as “good” sheep can become “evil” goats (or vice-versa). Consequently, the Chinese script for the word “crisis” and “opportunity” is exactly the same. Similarly, the words “goat” and “sheep” have the same Chinese pictogram.

This dynamic game interplay of yin and yang can be described in the Wu Xing ecology model, where the amount, perspective and timing or circumstance of the Elements are significant. Water, for instance, nourishes trees (Wood), but too much Water or flooding will rot and destroy Wood just as males are nourished by females but their continuous presence may irritate or annoy them. However, Earth absorbs the excess Water, just as lesbians court females. Eventually, if the female is influenced, she becomes bisexual as Earth and Water concentrate to produce mineral resources (“Metal”). Metal may chop down trees, but if metal is used carefully, it can craft wood to fine furniture just as Shaolin monks learned mental discipline and the practical use of martial arts from Buddhist and Hindu Indians. Water may also extinguish fire, but in small amounts, water simply relaxes the fire, just as females may neutralize fiery gays in their social presence, or just like clergymen baptizing militants in Living Water. A wildfire though may destroy forests, just like gays sodomizing males, but mild atmosphere-filtered sunshine is beneficial to trees, just as Asian men may sport fashionable neckties and body-fit Western shirts, tucked into European business pants that show the contour of their buttocks to other men, who eventually become customers or business partners.

Thus, all presidential candidates will roughly follow this common political symbol or pattern in the election game. And at the end of the day, whatever the election results may be, people will be able to roughly see a statistical supercollider “x-ray” of the Philippines’ state of mind or mental health, which may enable future leaders to heal the world and make it a “better” place.

People will learn. From the “male,” they learn how to think. From the “female,” they learn the “divine” nature of the five voices. From the “lesbian,” they become “down to earth.” From the gay, they dream big. And from the “bisexual,” they learn self-sacrifice and love. So let the games begin!

HINDI BA TAYO NAGSA-SAWA NA PAULIT-ULIT NA LANG NA PALUBOG NA PAGBABAGO ANG NANGYAYARI SA KALIDAD NG BUHAY NG BAWAT PILIPINO. WALANG PANGMATAGALANG SOLUSYON SA MGA PROBLEMA, DAHIL LAGING DAMAGE CONTROL O PAMPALUBAG LOOB ANG GINAGAWA NG LUMANG PULITIKA.

HOW, REALLY, DID MANUEL BAMBA VILLAR, JR. GET TO BE RICH? It may bear and serve the Filipino nation well to investigate and know that Manny Villar may actually have broken through Tondo-ragged accountancy to billionaire-rich presidentiable by allowing himself to be used as a foreign investor’s dummy in the Philippine real estate business. You see, the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines is made exclusive by law to Filipino citizens, necessarily because it involves business affairs affecting matters of territory, patrimony, and national security. Wasn’t that a debonair American who was smilingly visible every day at the offices of Crown Asia, Inc., way back before the Villars became politically ambitious? Unfortunately, sighting an American presence at Crown Asia, Inc. deteriorates to zero visibility in hot election weather, especially nowadays! As Manny Villar embarked on a political career, it naturally became strategically imperative to avoid flaks of damaging controversy about being economically beholden to foreign influence, especially from nationalist camps of the likes of then Senator Teofisto Guingona Jr. who was instrumental in passing the general law limiting the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines only to Filipinos. In fact, the last times the bespactacled, middle-aged happy American investor (silent or express?) of Crown Asia, Inc. was regularly observed at the 18th Floor of Cityland Herrera Tower was from 1997 to 1999. Most of us do have “humble,” sometimes “rotten,” beginnings; yet being transparent about such beginnings can do more good than harm. Perhaps good Senator Manuel Villar may want to comment on this at this time?

15 Reasons Why I’m Campaigning for Nicanor Perlas to be Next Philippine President
[Pam Fernandez’ adaptation to the postings of Panjee, Noid and others who provided some ideas/template through their own reflections]

    1. A man of spiritual virtues and goals; practices clean and wholesome living: He has been consistent in pursuing his purpose: serve earth and country through his most authentic self, despite risks and other challenges. Honesty and integrity are something that he lives in. He practices clean living, doesn’t smoke, drink, and eat meat. He was a certified athlete thus imbibed values such as teams-manship. He eats lower in the food chain (vegetarian).

    2. A practical visionary- vision translated to action: His initiatives are visionary or are linked to the greater good, the higher forces; to inner values, personal development and community service. And these initiatives are well grounded, and are affirmed by highly respected visionary groups at the global level. He has a vision and a complete platform of what needs to be done. Included in his platform is to mainstream VISIONARY initiatives. In other words, he welcomes and facilitates manifestation of innovations and creativity. He works to implement them on a broader scale. He also sees the need for civil society as a collective institution to serve as a check to the excesses of government.

    3. Strong on Threefolding: He is effective in bringing together initiatives from the 3 realms: culture, economic and political. He has a broad concept on the basis and processes of this threefolding. He has a holistic approach to our country’s problems, seeing the need for the government (POLITICAL sphere), business (ECONOMIC sphere), and civil society (CULTURAL sphere) to work together most effectively and spiritually.

    4. Balanced person, with integrated head, heart and will; practices what he preaches about societal change; led wholesome national movements of global impact: He is very intelligent, well-read, broad minded and thinks at the “synthesis” level. His thoughts and vision are written in an international bestselling book Shaping Globalization: Civil Society, Cultural Power, and Threefolding which has been translated into at least 9 languages. He is highly sought after on a wide selection of topics. He is also initiator, founder, co-founder of civil society movement: KARANGALAN which celebrates the various talents, achievements, and innovations by Filipinos. PAGASA which seeks to develop the spiritual and cultural well-being of the Filipinos, which will eventually make for a better country. Truthforce is a web-based global magazine that celebrates truth and good news, providing creative solutions and hopeful events and concepts so we may find strength, hope and greater connection in our earthly work. He also lives the philosophy of freedom of each human being as he didn’t compel individuals nor the organizations to which he belongs to join him in his candidacy. Instead, he left if up to them whether to support him or not.

    5. Has vigilance and does effective work in citizen-based watchdog: He is honest, and has zero tolerance for corruption http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2WQpLYH1ZQ. He has been fighting corruption from the time of Marcos to Cory to Erap and to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Despite threats to his life, he fought for the closing of the corrupt-ridden Bataan Nuclear Power Plant during the time of Marcos and succeeded in stopping it from operating. He did this while living in penury in the United States. He was also the Environmental Representative in the Steering Committee of KOMPIL II that developed the detailed strategies that eventually succeeded in removing President Estrada from office. He is highly instrumental in the banning of 32 dangerous agricultural pesticides, and in protecting farmers from trade liberalization esp during the big APEC meeting held in the Philippines in 1996.

    6. Clarity on analysis and vision about the environment: He warned us of global warming, climate change ; super typhoons, and the tragedies it would bring, despite being called a fear-monger. These are mainstream topics now. His understanding of the science of nature is deep. Strategies based on this deep understanding would consequently be more effective and long-term.

    7. “Cosmic” Agriculture: I have seen that his kind of “energy agriculture” or “quantum/cosmic agriculture”, or biodynamics (one form of it that he has been practicing and promoting) truly works, and has spread to more than 3,000 families in the country. Such system of farming produces high yields and considerably much less inputs and cost; but more importantly, it gives quality that is better than what organic farming gives. Nicky became not only an agronomist but a farmer who is well sought-out by people wanting to learn alternative ways of farming. His dream of becoming a physicist got translated to a kind of agriculture that affirms indigenous practices, quantum science based approaches and thus greatly helped our highly marginalized and poor farmers. He further deepened sustainable agriculture and organic farming; thus, freeing farmers from the bondage of pesticides and poisonous chemicals, as well as bulky inputs.

    8. Alternative Economics: He helped the poor set up businesses via microfinance. This has helped over 200,000 farmers. He had been advancing associative economics where externalities or the other cost of production, as well as household-level affairs are part of the equation.

    9. Global recognition of work in threefolding and others: He is recipient of the 2003 Right Livelihood Award (also known as the Alternative Nobel) “for his outstanding efforts in educating civil society about the effects of corporate globalisation, and how alternatives to it can be implemented.” He also received other global and national prestigious awards. These recognize that he “walks his talk”, that his accomplishments are well grounded and that could serve as template for development efforts in other counties and organizations.

    10. Strong on the cultural and artistic means of transformation: He is the artist’s candidate, because he sees the need for the CULTURAL sphere (meaning, the rest of us) to remind government and businesses of what really matters at the level of “culture and spirituality“ and not just money and material things. He also advocates and developed initiatives that promote creativity in all aspects of life. He himself is a living example of creativity. He lives the saying “the revolution of the heart is the heart of the revolution”.

    11. Genuinely uses and is effective in participatory processes: One can observe this when he is in workshops. He includes everyone in decision-making. He listens to what everyone has to say and treats them with respect and as equals. He is a down-to-earth kind of guy, without airs, and you feel you can approach him anytime. He has a great sense of humor, and has an endearing belly laugh.

    12. Has magic effect on people; connect them to their higher purpose: You don’t have to think of ‘gimmicks’ or tricks when trying to convince voters to vote for your candidate. You just let them know about his achievements http://www.nicanor-perlas.com/About-Nicanor-Perlas and the kind of person he is, and it’s an easy sell. He has that kind of aura that makes people resonate with him, even before they meet him in person. He inspires people who get to know or listen to him. These people get connected to their higher self and deep purpose in life. He was in my journey to finding myself and my life work in the academe and outside.

    13. Engages the “ordinary” to be part of birthing the New Philippines: He inspires hope and makes one’s participation in the campaign light and fun! You get to collaborate with very creative and passionate individuals, who like him, has a vision of New Politics and a New Philippines. You get to participate in a momentous event in the history of the world. This is an opportunity, to work actively for a vision of a New Philippines and with a visionary who has the track record to back it up comes along very rarely, and I don’t want to pass it up.

    14. Paved the road for my personal growth (esp in holistic thinking) and world service: He is strongly a part and highly instrumental in my journey as mother, teacher, scientist and farmer partner. He opened the door for me to the second scientific revolution, the science of the impossible. This led me to my own exploration and expanded my resonance with …Quantum agriculture and Agnihotra, Alternative education, Alternative medicine and healing, and Alternative lifestyle.

    15. It is the right time for this momentous event that has global impact, and he is the carrier of this change. The New Politics is being born and the Philippines is its place of birth. It is a global shift happening and we are significant players in this event. Such require new consciousness, new processes and great creativity. Only an authentic, spiritual, well-grounded person, who has the ability to connect to this collective intelligence may lead in this process.
