Election 2010: Noynoy, Gibo, Manny, or Erap?

Who will be the next President of the Philippines?  Will it be Noynoy Aquino, Gilbert Teodoro, Manny Villar or Joseph Estrada?  Or will we be surprised by JC Delos Reyes of Ang Kapatiran or even Nicanor Perlas?  Will we be equally awed by Dick Gordon and Bayani Fernando?

Nevermind what the surveys are saying right now because the reality is that, as of this writing, election day is still 162 days away and that means you have as many days to think about who you are going to vote for.  You can change your mind as many times as you want between now and May 10, 2010.

When it comes to deciding on who you will vote for, it really helps if you learn all you can about each and every candidate.

Although mainstream media has been pumping out information on all candidates, websites in the Philippines have become a more valuable tool in helping people decide on who to vote for and here are a couple that you might want to visit.

On top of the list are Comelec websites about candidates and about the automated election system.

  • Political Arena or Politicalarena.com  is a website created by Jobs DB and the Comelec in response to the need to inform the people about the candidates that will be running in 2010.  The creators of Political Arena describe it as “the Philippines’ first socio-political Networking Site . It serves as a venue for Candidates and Voters of Philippine 2010 Presidential Elections to communicate with each other. Members may post Photos and Videos , and join Forum on Issues like Labor and Employment , Politics , National Affairs , Economy and Commerce , and Education . There are also sections such as Calendar , News and Announcements for a complete political resource .”

  • Iba na ngayon! This is one of two websites that offer official information from the Commission on Elections and the automated election process that will be implemented in May 2010.  The creators of the website describe it in terms of the Comelec’s ongoing effort to provide information in better ways, “A website for the COMELEC was first made available in 1998, under the leadership of former Chairman Bernardo P. Pardo, as an assistance from certain non-government organizations, for purposes of disseminating information pertaining to the 1998 national and synchronized elections. However, since maintenance of this site was not with COMELEC itself, it soon went out of the air, so to speak.   // In 2001, the COMELEC first established its independent presence on the information highway, answering the call for a more accessible venue for disseminating official canvassing results by the National Board of Canvassers for the May 14, 2001 senatorial and party-list elections. This happened under the leadership of former Chairman Alfredo L. Benipayo.  // Since then, the COMELEC website has undergone a couple of “e-facelifts” with the primary objective of coming up with a more eye-catching website, that is easy to navigate, with more useful and updated information, that would encourage its audience to learn more about the Philippine electoral process… and to keep coming back for more!

  • Bagong Botante is the partner of Iba na ngayon which offers an array of social networking tools that will help and enable people to spread information about automated elections in 2010.  Its about page describes it as “The automation of the national elections in 2010 provides the country the opportunity to start anew, knowing that our next leaders have the strong mandate to change the future of the Philippines.  // Bagong botante is not only about the 18 year old, newly registered voter, but also those voters who are again excited to be part of this historical change. //AMCA Smart Solutions, Inc. developed this social network site to engage the community to participate and become very involved in 2010 using the internet to learn, understand, teach others and help ensure the success of the election. //The tagline, “botanteAKO!” Sandigan ng Demokrasya stresses the importance of each and everyone’s responsibility to his country and his future, starting with the 2010 elections and beyond.  //Mabuhay ang bagong botante!

Other websites that you may want to visit belong to candidates or the supporters of Presidential candidates in 2010 and here they are in alphabetical order:

Yeah, sorry about that. We’re going through coding issues. I don’t know how to code and I’ve got issues.
